DR PURE WATER -  CONT'D
Ramona has to use crutches to get around because she was stricken with polio 15
years ago. She knows that if she had owned a home water purifier, she would have
been spared this unfortunate infirmity. We do not have to pray for Ramona to
succeed in this effort because she is strong, her heart is in the right place, and she
is very enthusiastic about starting a home water purifier program at Buen Pastor.
Unfortunately, we do have to pray for Sister Jean Gabriel to give Ramona her
blessing. The good sister seems to have her mind set on selling water from the small
water treatment plant even though that would not really help people who simply
cannot afford to buy bottled water. Oh, eventually our program will prevail at Buen
Pastor, but it will be frustrating and sad if little progress is made this year because
Sister Jean Gabriel might not support Ramona’s efforts. One of my goals was to
educate about water purification and the importance of drinking only safe water. It
pleases me to be able to report success in the education department. My prepared
presentation went well in the public school in Gautier where three classes each
cheered and clapped at the end of my talks. At the church school at Buen Pastor,
the students treated me to the same rapt attention and final expression of
appreciation. Hygiene instruction, nutrition information, and the importance of good
potable water are lessons particularly important for youth. Furthermore, nothing
makes those lessons more memorable than a funny looking, bumble-tongued guy from
the mythical land of New York.
The entire team feels blessed that we can afford the time and the money to
travel to the Dominican Republic and serve as your servants and ambassadors.
Your donations help us buy the home water purifiers and the medicine that allow
us to function in unison as the Samaritan who did not pass by on the other
side. Please let me express our most heartfelt thanks for your generosity!
Whether we prescribe medicine or prevention in the form of pure, safe water,
we cannot carry out our mission without the prayers and gifts of the church’s
members and friends; the philanthropy of our community; and the caring, sharing
love that you all have for people in need. Please continue saving clean
plastic buckets and wine box spigots for our effort. Again, The students were very
polite and receptive. THANK YOU all!
